unadapted for building purposes. After discussion with the Director of Public Works, the Colonial Secretary and others I informed Mr. Mody that if the scheme of establishing a University were to fructify I should be prepared to recommend to Your Lordship the grant of this site for the purpose.

Mr. Mody thereupon at his own expense had plans prepared by a Local Architect of a Building such as would be required for the purpose. I enclose a plan of these Buildings together with a block plan of the ground from which the following points may be noted:-

(a). The main block of Buildings includes on the ground floor 6 Lecture Rooms, 3 Laboratories, and 2 Drawing Offices, together with a large Dining Room, a large Hall, 2 Libraries, Living Rooms for the Principal and one Professor with Store-rooms, Kitchens, Lavatories &c.. The upper floor includes 4 large Dormitories, Lavatories, Professors' Quarters, &c.. The whole is considered sufficient for the purpose of establishing three Professional Chairs or Faculties - those at present selected being Medicine, Applied Science and Law and of accommodating upwards of 100 students.
